OCTOBER 22, 2014

Winter I Athletic Orientation meetings will take place on Wednesday, October 22nd at 2:45.  Please see the signs by the Athletic Office for room locations.

PTSA will be running our Middle School Book Fair on Tuesday October 21st and Wednesday October 22nd  from 7:30am to 2:00pm in the Middle School Library.  Students will be coming to the fair during English class, and may also stop by during lunch.

KICKS FOR A CURE:  Do you or a family member have a pair of old sneakers that are no longer being used?  Please donate them for our “Kicks for a Cure” Used Sneaker Collection.  All of the sneakers collected will be donated to the Max Cure Foundation, an organization that supports children who have pediatric cancer.  The sneakers will be sold to a recycling company and the proceeds will support pediatric cancer research, as well as families of children who have cancer.  You can drop of your used sneakers at the collection bin outside of the attendance office.  Any questions see Ms. Verdino.

The Community Service classes are making activity books for children at our local hospitals.  We are holding a crayon drive so we can send crayons along with our activity books.  We are collecting crayons boxes (packs of 8) in a box outside the attendance office on the first floor.  

SADD:  There will be a very important SADD meeting on Wed, October 22nd.  This will be our final meeting to prepare for our third annual Bully Prevention Kick-Off.  We will be meeting in the Library computer lab. Snacks will be served.  Any questions… see Ms. Verdino

 Advertising Club will meet on Monday’s at 2:05 in Room 114. Together we will create posters for school and community events... while eating delicious snacks, of course. All are welcome. Mrs. Riccuiti is looking forward to seeing you this afternoon."

Chinese Culture Club is cancelled this week.

COMPUTER CLUB: will meet on Wednesdays in room 121 from 2:05 – 3:05 with Mr. Pagliari.

COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING CLUB: will meet on Wednesdays in room 215 with Ms. Panayiotou.

The Create-a-Game Club will be offered on Wednesdays in Room 104 from 2:05-3:05. Have fun playing board games and computer games or creating some of your own! Snacks will be provided!

DIVERSITY DAY meetings are Thursdays in room 102.  Applications for this year's show are due by October 31st! 

Diversity Day T-Shirt Design Contest- Calling all artists!  This year's theme is "Express Yourself(ie)".  T-shirt designs due to Ms. Waters in room 102 by October 24th.  

Send-in-a-Selfie- Email your favorite selfie to by November 14th to be included in a montage for Diversity Day. 


French Club with Madame Mueller will meet on Mondays in room 110.  Come experience French culture and have fun. There will be snacks!

Games club with Mrs. Clemente will meet on Thursday’s in room 105 from 2:05-3:05. Bring a friend or meet a new one while playing various games. All are welcome.

Garden Club will meet on Thursday (10/23) this week in room 213 with Mrs. Viviano.  Join us as we have fun planting around the school to make JMS look beautiful.  Delicious snacks served ;)

GSA - meeting Wednesday, Room 102, right after school.  Important information on how you could be an effective ally.

 HOMEWORK CLUB with Mrs. Bolton will meet on Thursday’s in room 116. Come by for snacks and homework help and a quiet place to relax after school. SEE YOU THERE.  :-) 2:10-3:10

Jayhawk Newspaper Club Extra, Extra, Read All About It! – The Jayhawk Newspaper Club starts Thursday, Oct. 2 after school in Room 205. We are looking for writers, reporters, artists, poll takers, photographers, and more. Refreshments are served! Please see Mrs. O’Brien or Mrs. Welsh if you have any questions.

The KUNG FU CLUB will meet on WEDNESDAYS in the lobby outside the entrance to the boy’s locker room. See Mr. Pekor for details!!!

MATHLETES II  -  All 8th graders who are up for the challenge, come on Wednesday ‘s to Room 219 at 2:15. The first contest will be on Tuesday. November 18th.

MATH OLYMPIADS - If you are a 6th grader interested in working on some challenging math problems and participating in competitions, come to an informational meeting on Thursday's, in room 104.

Peer to Peer Tutoring Club Calling all tutors!  If you are a student who likes to help others while earning community service hours this is the perfect club for you. Please come to room 115 after school on Friday for an informational meeting about becoming a tutor.  If you are a student who would like to be tutored please give Ms. Diehl or Mrs. Schisgall your name and the subjects you would like help with.

Spanish Club will meet on Fridays in room 220 from 2:05-3:05. Participate in fun activities and learn more about the Spanish culture. All are welcome. You do not need to know or speak any Spanish. Snacks and refreshments will be served. See Ms. Vidal if you have any questions. Hasta pronto!

Strategy games club will be meeting this Friday at 2:15 in room 223. Come and enjoy games, snacks, and refreshments
